WhatsApp was banned for 48 hours, starting from Thursday, but the ban was removed earlier, after the judge ruled that the duration of the suspension is unreasonable.

WhatsApp was ordered by the court to give some information related to a drug traffic case and it failed to do so. According to Standard Media, this was the reason why Sao Paulo Judge Sandra Regina Nostre Marques ordered a 48 hour block for this application. In concordance with The Guardian, WhatsApp has failed to comply with order twice already and it was expected that this will happen.

Jan Koum, chief executive at WhatsApp, said that the decision of Judge Marques was “short-sighted” and because of this, all WhatsApp users from Brazil were isolated from the rest of the world. However, this doesn’t mean that they couldn’t use other mobile messaging applications to keep in touch with their friends and families.

However, if most of your friends are using the WhatsApp application, and you live in Brazil, we’re pretty sure that you’ve been quite cranky because of this ban.

Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of Facebook, also said that he is quite disappointed with what the court decided and banning a popular messaging that has by over 900 million monthly active users seems too much.

However, after many users have started to talk about this on social networks such as Twitter or Facebook, the judge Xavier de Souza said that the duration of the block was unreasonable and millions of users are affected by it. Because of this, he ordered the ban to be lifted Thursday afternoon.

Attorney Adriano Mendes is specialized in digital law and affirmed that WhatsApp was in a difficult position and by releasing the court-requested information could have condemned the company in the US under its privacy policies.

Do you think that the court did the right thing by banning the WhatsApp application for 48 hours? Do you think that judge Xavier de Souza made the right decision by removing the ban earlier?
