Facebook has once again boosted charity work by launching a new platform for raising funds with the nonprofit making organizations.
This comes a few days after the Zuckerberg-owned company rolled out ‘Safety Check’ feature following last Friday’s Paris attacks. This feature enables users to keep in touch with their loved ones, family and friends in the event of a disaster. Facebook first tested various platforms in the year 2013 for nonprofit making organizations that can assist them in fundraising on the app.
On Wednesday, Naomi Gleit, who is Facebook’s Vice President of Product Management, said that the company is improving its ‘Donate’ button to boost charity work without the need of leaving the Facebook app and also testing a new feature that will aid the nonprofit making organizations access new supporters and involve the community. Gleit pointed out that people’s lives are changed when the community takes action in times of disaster and this can be attributed to enhanced connections.
The ‘Donate’ button
Having debuted way back in 2013, the ‘Donate Now’ button allowed the users to easily make donations to nonprofit making organizations. The users who clicked on the button would be prompted to key in the amount they wished to donate and include the payment info directly via Facebook. The Facebook VP of Product Management also said that the revamped ‘Donate’ button is being improved and will be availed on Posts and Pages giving the nonprofits a reliable platform for collecting donations despite updating the content on their pages.
Donors will also easily donate directly from News Feed with the inclusion of a ‘Donate’ button on a post.
Fundraising platform
This new feature or rather tool will be dubbed “Fundraisers”. They are a committed avenue to pool funds towards a specific course from a nonprofit’s Page. The organization expounds on the campaign story, their target and their intended course. They can woo supporters through their themed campaigns and proposed special projects as well as collecting donations and checking their progress through a given period of time. Donors will be able to chip in in just a few taps or clicks and also share their contributions with other friends.
The shared posts will include a ‘Donate’ button that will enable other Facebook users to make their donations as well as joining the fundraiser right away on the News Feed.
The added tools and the improved button facilitate easier contribution using a single-page form without quitting Facebook.
The way round
Facebook has tried this initiative with over 37 partner organizations such as World Wildlife Fund, National Multiple Sclerosis Society and Mercy Corps. In future, these tools are expected to be introduced in many other organizations. Interested organizations in using these tools on the Facebook platform can log on to donations.fb.com
